What We Do

TSO is committed to supporting transfers through their transition and throughout their time at Penn.

NSO Programming

During Penn's New Student Orientation for the first week of the year, TSO holds some events as well. Transfers and TSO board members are orientation leaders (PHINS) and hold small group dinners, transfer information sessions, and mentorship bonding events.

NSO is one of the most important parts of TSO's work because we seek to help transfers through their early transition time and work to make sure they are aware that there is a supportive community of transfers to welcome them.

Mentorship

TSO’s mentorship program serves as a resource to help incoming transfer students grow accustomed to life at Penn. All incoming transfers will receive a mentor. Pairings are based on a variety of factors ranging from cultural background to post-graduation interests. The hope is that a successful pairing will evolve into a strong relationship that significantly helps out incoming transfers.

The mentorship program hosts several events throughout the year that attempt to strengthen the bond between mentor and mentee. Events could be trips to Penn’s Landing or great Philly restaurants. Besides these events, mentors are responsible for keeping in contact with their mentee and ensuring that their transition to Penn is as smooth as possible.

If you have any more questions about TSO’s mentorship program, please email Co-Vice Presidents of Mentorship Patrick and Richard at pbeyrer@sas.upenn.edu  and rjchung@sas.upenn.edu.

Community & Social Events

Although many events are held during NSO, TSO makes an effort to keep the transfer community close and stays active throughout the entire year. We tend to have social events once or twice a month. Some of the events we have had and are planning for in the upcoming semesters are BYOs, karaoke nights, Homecoming/St. Patrick’s day brunches, the Around the World/Back to School nights, movie nights, and smaller get-togethers (including watching football games).

In addition, we host a Transfer formal at the end of every semester. We try to make it as easy as possible to meet other transfers early on and still stay connected as the semesters get busier.
