Deepti Tantry
Co-President
Deepti is a neuroscience major and health services management minor originally from Doylestown, PA. She transferred after her freshman year from Penn State and has loved every moment she got to spend on campus (pre-COVID). Outside of TSO, she is involved with research in the Computational Memory Lab as well as many global health initiatives as well as local volunteering initiatives across campus. She is an intern for the Office of Social Equity and has loved being able to work with administration to help improve Penn. She is also a part of Sargam, one of the many music groups at Penn. In the future, she hopes to earn an MD/MBA and become a practicing physician. When not playing music or being involved in her clubs, you can find Deepti looking for the best views of Philly across the city.
Lexi is a junior in the college majoring in economics and minoring in statistics. She transferred from UVA and is originally from Morristown, NJ. Outside of TSO, Lexi is involved in the Undergraduate Statistics Society, Penn Running Club, and is a member of Sigma Kappa. Lexi loves sports, and her favorite teams are the Devils, Giants, and Yankees. She also loves going to the beach and going for long runs/is too obsessed with Peloton. She is so excited to meet all the new transfers at NSO.
Sarah is a junior in the College studying Neuroscience and minoring in Bioethics on the pre-med track. She lives in Bergen County, NJ (15 mins from NYC!), and transferred from Emory University after her freshman year. Outside of TSO, Sarah is a tutor with the Penn Undergraduates for Refugee Empowerment and a research assistant in a lab where she is studying HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. In her free time, you can find her walking to the Schuylkill River with her friends, visiting coffee shops around Philly, Yelping restaurants, and tagging her friends in Facebook memes.
Rebecca is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Biology with a concentration in Mechanisms of Disease and minoring in Health Service Management on a pre-MD/PhD track. She is from Ridgewood, New Jersey and transferred from Boston College after her freshman year. Along with being the Vice President of Internal Communications and Alumni Relations for TSO, Rebecca is an undergraduate researcher at Penn Medicine. She is also a writer for the PennScience journal and a volunteer with Penn Science Across Ages. In her free time, Rebecca likes to spend time with friends and explore Philly.
Emma is a sophomore from Beijing, China studying Psychology and Communications. She transferred from Boston University. Outside of TSO, she is involved in the Assembly of International Students, Asian Pacific Student Coalition, and Alpha Phi Omega. When she is procrastinating on her schoolwork, she is likely listening to Harry Styles, watching a hockey game, or analyzing the latest Marvel movie.
Sim is a junior originally from Westchester, New York and transferred from Stony Brook University. She is majoring in cognitive science and criminology. Besides being a part of the wonderful TSO board, she is also a research assistant in a psychology lab, an advising fellow for Matriculate, a research assistant for a political science project, and is a writer for BARS, Penn’s criminal justice reform magazine. In her free, she loves cooking, watching tv, and hiking! She also loves making new friends and can’t wait to meet the incoming transfers!!
Kevin is a sophomore in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences studying Computer Science, with a concentration in Cognitive Science. He transferred to Penn after spending his freshman year at Lehigh University, and is originally from Doylestown, PA. Outside of TSO, Kevin is involved with the Penn Barbell Club and is a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He loves running, guitar, and anything Philly sports related. He is super excited to meet all the new transfers during NSO!
Anna is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in English and minoring in Music. She transferred from UCLA and grew up around the Philly area. Anna is involved in Music department vocal groups like Collegium Musicum and Opera Workshops. She is also an aspiring yogi near her teacher certification with specialization in trauma-informed yoga. In her free time, she plays piano and guitar, and loves to read and write in Clark Park while sipping on dangerously strong lattes.
Becca is a Biology major (Mechanisms of Disease concentration) and French minor originally from outside Boston. She transferred as a sophomore from Villanova University and is loving the Philly food scene (Philly cheese steaks >>>). Besides TSO, Becca is a tour guide, tutors in West Philly, runs with Penn Club XCTF, and loves exploring new neighborhoods in her free time. She also works in two labs (T cell immunotherapy and epidemiology) and hopes to eventually pursue a PhD in Immunology. TSO has been so supportive and helpful for her, so she’s looking forward to continuing that with the incoming class!
Isabella is a sophomore in the College of Arts of Sciences majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) and minoring in Consumer Psychology and Survey Research and Data Analytics. In addition to her role as TSO’s VP of Social Planning, Isabella is involved with Penn Debate Society, Penn Mergers and Acquisitions Club, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Delta Sigma Pi. Bella enjoys exploring the philly food scene, listening to music, playing field hockey, and singing karaoke with friends.
Asaad is a junior studying neuroscience and healthcare management on the pre-med track. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas where he went to the University of Texas at Dallas before transferring to Penn - perhaps the greatest decision he's ever made. Aside from TSO, Asaad is involved with Penn for Refugee Empowerment, Students4Rohingya, Penn Benjamins, and SHOP. In his free time he likes to read about psychology and history, work out, and listen to music. As a transfer who just went through the process a year ago, he is very excited to welcome and help the new transfer class during NSO this fall!
Joseph is a sophomore at Wharton concentrating in finance. In addition to being on the TSO board, Joseph is involved in the Wharton Investment & Trading Group and TAMID at Penn. When not studying, Joseph can be found spending time on Locust Walk with friends or watching Saturday Night Live. From Woodmere, NY, he is a big fan of NY-style pizza.
Mahi is a sophomore studying neuroscience and linguistics on the pre-med track at the College of Arts and Sciences. She transferred from Oxford College at Emory University and misses the warm weather in Atlanta. However, she is having a lot of fun exploring Philadelphia, finding the best food trucks near campus, thrifting, and visiting the local bookstore cat, Lester. At Penn she is involved in various tutoring programs such as MAS and the Educational Pipeline Program. She enjoys her time as a research assistant at the Infant Language Learning lab and volunteers with Penn Women's Refugee Center.
Katie is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Chemistry with aspirations of attending medical school! She transferred from the United States Air Force Academy and is originally from Long Island, New York. Besides being a Representative for TSO, Katie is involved with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, is a writer for Veteran’s Life Stories, and an undergraduate research assistant at Penn Med! She loves to bake, spend time with family and friends, and explore different places to eat in Philadelphia and New York City!
My name is Sara Whitelaw and I am originally from Denver, Colorado. I transferred from Villanova University and have come to love Penn’s dedication toward fostering spaces for all individuals to feel welcomed. I am a Cognitive Science and Criminology double major and recently began my research journey. I love thrifting, and curating awesome playlists. Currently, I am on a mission to find the best halal cart in Philadelphia. As a TSO Representative, please reach out with any questions, concerns, or thoughts on how to make the transfer community a better place.
Luke is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Criminology and Hispanic Studies with aspirations of attending law school. He transferred from Vanderbilt University and is originally from Miami Beach, Florida. Besides being a Representative for TSO, Luke is involved with the Wharton Undergraduate Energy Group, UnEarthed Magazine, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Penn Hillel, and Penn Buckets. Luke enjoys playing and watching sports, paddle boarding, and exploring Philadelphia’s cheesesteak scene with friends.
